Meet Sweatha Balasundaram

Sweatha’s dance journey commenced at the age of 3 under the expert guidance of her mother, Usha Balasundaram, at Sarawathy Kalakendra Institution of Fine Arts, where she embraced Bharathanatyam. This early exposure laid the foundation for a deep appreciation of classical dance, creating a special mother-daughter connection in the world of dance.

With a passion for diversity, Sweatha expanded her dance repertoire to include Mohiniyattam, contemporary, ballet, Bollywood, and Bhangra. This eclectic training not only showcased her versatility but also shaped her ability to seamlessly blend traditional and contemporary elements in her choreography. Further enriching her dance education, Sweatha dedicated two years to dance studies in India, deepening her understanding of classical forms and contributing to the cultural exchange in the global dance community. She also took part in Dansprogrammet at Dans och Cirkus Högskolan (DOCH) in Stockholm.

Sweatha’s performances have graced stages across Sweden, captivating audiences with her seamless transitions between different dance genres. She showcased her choreography on the national platform Talang Sverige, demonstrating her innovative approach and artistic flair and earned recognition as the winner of the Swedish choreography competition,

showcasing her continuous commitment to creativity and innovation.

Sweatha’s journey has come full circle as she now imparts her knowledge and passion as an instructor at Saraswathy Kalakendra, dancing under the guidance of her mother, Usha Balasundaram, and nurturing the next generation of dancers. Beyond her classes, she actively conducts workshops in Stockholm, including contributions to Kulturskolans Dag as well as in Stockholm and Botkyrka Kulturskolan.
